![]() The comedy is hilarious and some anecdotes are pretty funny. There is also a certain message about women empowerment, which is rather a tad bit loud, however it doesn't feel like a distraction. The film shows various locales in Jhansi, Kota and then shifts to Singapore. ![]() Rather than the lead cast, the supporting cast is a lot more fun to watch, like Varun's best friend in the film Somdev. ![]() However, Varun and Alia both hold the attention of the audience thus making the film a fun filled watch. lessīKD has all the elements of a romcom: goodlooking protagonists, songs which can make you shake a leg and non existent logic. All in all it is a decent one-time watch family film. Though having another film on feminism is not bad for India, but we could do much better with incessant male bashing in the name of feminism. The film is a good mix of romance, drama, comedy, and the cinematography as mentioned previously is a good mix of small town rural charms and the urban & luxurious locations of Singapore. Trivedi, Ritaraj Singh as Badrinath’s father, Yash Sinha as Alok, Shweta Prasad as Urmila Bansal, and Aparshakti Khurana as Bhushan. Varun and Alia play the small town kids with sophistication and believability and they receive ample of support from the supporting cast of Sahil Vaid as Somdev Mishra, Swanand Kirkire as Mr. Karan Johar should receive a pat on his back for displaying the courage for presenting an entertaining yet meaningful film with a strong message as an attempt to change the orthodox & conservative Indian mindset of small town people towards women. The clash of the ideologies due to the generation gap in the families and due to the Indian sexist mentality and the rebellious Alia is shown in perfect proportions without trying to stamp the message of viewers but instead taking the audience out for a joyride as the second half is shot in Singapore which depicts Alia as the perfect modern independent woman with no restrictions imposed. They both have a crackling chemistry as expected and despite their characters having diametrically opposite opinions on everything, they recognize the goodness in each other towards the end of the movie. Songs like “Aashiq Surrender Hua”, “Humsafar”, & “Tamma Tamma Again”, add the required amount of entertainment and the scenes keep on rolling swiftly as the tone of the movie is kept light and funny, which is complemented well by the performances of Varun and Alia. While the basic message and premise of the movie might seem a bit outdated but it is shown in a manner that is completely relevant and by sprinkling humorous scenes, catchy songs, beautiful locations, and impressive dance sequences from Varun and Alia. The movie showcases the current scenario that the young women of India have to face on daily basis that hampers their chances of living the life freely and attaining success in their chosen line. Vaidehi (Alia) then spins everyone with her complex plan for setting herself free to achieve her dreams and simultaneously gets her sister married to her dream man. The movie aptly portrays the women in a positive light and also sheds light over various hurdles imposed by the middle class orthodox mentality that exists in various small towns of India. She is born in a typical conservative Indian family that believes in imposing restrictions on girls and marrying them off in a wealthy after they reach a certain age without even considering about their daughter’s own dreams, ambitions, and life. ![]() Alia Bhatt plays the role of a small town girl from the IIT coaching hub of Rajasthan, namely Kota. With impactful performances of Varun and Alia, this film represents and showcases the pleasant results and repercussions of imparting freedom and equal opportunities to women of small town. ![]() Produced under the illustrious banner of Dharma Productions which is owned by Karan Johar, this movie is also a fun watch, but in contradiction to its prequel, this film also wraps up an important social message of feminism, that is trending nowadays in the news and media throughout the country. Written & directed by Shashank Khaitan, (who directed the recent box office success-Dhadak this year and the 2015 hit named Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya), Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya is a sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya which had the same lead pair of Varun Dhawan & Alia Bhatt. ![]()
